BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
UPCOMING PERFORMANCES:
See it June 9-15, 2012, Harlequin Players, New Zealand.
A 90 Minute musical for 6 leads and a chorus of forest and flower faeries. This first-ever musical version of the story preceded the animated adaptation and is a more effective, simple, and accessible fantasy which more powerfully and unashamedly explores the relationship of the innocent young Beauty and her mysterious, dangerous Beast. Trapped in animal form by the Faery Queen, whose daughter (named Rose), he dared to promise to marry and then abandon, and who died of a broken heart, the Beast, who secludes himself in a magic castle with a beautiful rose garden planted in the faery's memory, can only regain human form by finding true love. Will he find it in a simple merchant's daughter, who he fears to set free? And can Beauty look past the surface and love the man inside the monster? A great and truly magical script which has pleased audiences of all ages for many years.
Performed on two alternating sets: Castle garden exterior and Beauty's house. Production Package includes complete Musical Score for piano and keyboard, Midi files, and individualized Vocal Parts for lead roles.
Previously produced at Brisbane Arts Theatre, Queensland, Australia, Bristol Riverside Theatre, Riverfront Dinner Theatre, CBStage, Newtown Arts Company, Bucks County Playhouse and numerous junior high and high schools.
